Hello! My name is Julia and I am fundraising to bring my solo physical comedy show My Grandmother's Eyepatch to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August! I have been developing the show for five years and have been touring it for the past two years in the US and Canada. I have won some big awards, including "Best of the Fest" and "Best Solo Show for Comedy" from the Orlando Fringe Festival, which is the biggest fringe in the US, as well as "Best Solo Clown Show" and selling out my run at the Frigid Fringe in NYC.
My Grandmother's Eyepatch deals with grief and loss in a playful way. Out of everyone in my family, I always felt closest to my grandmother, because she was an artist like me. She was a poet. One time I heard a family member say they didn't know if my grandmother would have chosen to be a mom if she were born in a different time period. This is something I have thought about a lot and especially recently as I am in my late 30s and the decision of whether to be a mother is imminent. At times such as these, I wish I could consult with my grandmother. So why not hold a memorial service for a woman who's been dead for nearly 20 years! An incredible woman. My Grandma Mamie.
I have put a lot of work into the show and assembled an incredible team to go to Edinburgh, but self producing is expensive! I have big aspirations to be the next Fleabag, except blonde, but it is definitely $$$. The airfare to Edinburgh, lodging, venue rental, PR rep, technician to run the show, advertising, flyers, and so on. This is the biggest swing and biggest bet I've made on myself in my career. It is thrilling, exciting and a bit overwhelming. I know full well that there are many causes to put your money towards right now, and I appreciate you considering this one.
