INTRO - Hi! My name is Julian Morales , a filmmaker based in South Florida, and my new project, The Big Swing, is a Feature Film Drama for audiences who like absorbing, sexy, emotional adult dramas, in the style of films released by A24 or Neon. The film is currently in Pre-Production, where my team and I are revising the script and raising funds for cast & crew compensation, equipment expenses, and catering as we prepare for Production in 2026 and Post-Production in 2027.
Once in its Post-Production final stages, we will host a private test screening for audiences to receive final community feedback on the project. From there, we will exhibit the film through festival screenings and distribution. Any donations will earn you a spot in our end credits where you can see your name on the big screen, and entry for our private test screening!
SYNOPSIS - The Big Swing follows Sandra and Ben, a couple trapped in a nineteen-year marriage that has lost its spark, as they encounter the open-minded couple Daniela and Juan during what was meant to be a simple anniversary dinner. This chance meeting leads to an evening that will test the boundaries of their relationship and force them to confront long-suppressed desires and fundamental incompatibilities. Meanwhile, their teenage daughter Alejandra seizes her parents' absence to invite her close friend Kayla over, where the two young women finally act on romantic feelings they've harbored but never explored.
As both generations navigate intimate discoveries—Sandra embracing her sexuality while Ben faces hard truths, and Alejandra and Kayla experiencing first love—the film explores how authentic self-expression can both liberate and destroy the relationships we thought we knew.
OUR MISSION - Following post-production, the film will have a private screening for Broward County audiences, allowing local community members to provide final input and feedback before the film's official festival circuit and public release. This community screening will serve as both a celebration of local filmmaking and an opportunity for meaningful dialogue about the film's themes of modern relationships, family dynamics, and personal authenticity.
This project will benefit the community by highlighting and inspiring the local film community in Broward County & Miami-Dade to pursue character-driven, story-focused, South Florida-embracing feature filmmaking without the need to depend on the Hollywood system or having a large budget. In short, it will spark creative inspiration among our local creatives.
Additionally, the project will continue to raise the profile of Broward County as a hub for filmmakers through festival and local screenings. Film Lauderdale’s work to raise the profile of our county nationally is in direct connection to our ability to tell homegrown, independent stories that nurture our local storytellers.
Lastly, The Big Swing will benefit the community by creating space for meaningful dialogue about evolving relationship structures, family communication, and personal authenticity in our modern world. Through its honest portrayal of a marriage in transition and people discovering their identities, the film will encourage audiences to have deeper, more open conversations about topics that are often considered taboo. The film's nuanced exploration of non-monogamy, parent-child relationships, and sexual identity will provide a catalyst for community discussions about acceptance, communication, and the diverse ways people experience love and connection. By presenting these themes without judgment, the film can help reduce stigma and promote greater understanding within our South Florida community, particularly around LGBTQ+ youth experiences and alternative relationship structures.
