Support Judy's Healing After Emergency Surgery

Hi everyone,

My name is Judy I’m inflight crewmember (flight attendant) for Jetblue , and I’m reaching out to share something very personal and unexpected that recently happened.

Not long ago, I started feeling very unwell and went to a walk-in GYN clinic. The provider immediately urged me to go to the hospital — she suspected I was having an ovarian torsion. I was shocked. I didn’t think it was that serious. I even questioned whether she saw the sonogram correctly.

But I followed my instincts and went to the ER at NYU — the hospital where I’ve always received high-risk care. I went alone. I hadn’t told anyone how I’d been feeling because I didn’t want to worry my loved ones. After a whirlwind of tests, bloodwork, and sonograms, the doctors gave me the news: I was experiencing a torsion, and I needed emergency surgery right away.

My heart sank. I only have one ovary, and this meant I could lose it. I faced the possibility of early menopause, hormone therapy for life, and the loss of having another baby naturally. I stood in shock, alone, crying, with no time to process it.

I had even packed my bags the night before, thinking I’d be back to work the next day. But instead, I was being prepped for surgery. When the doctors refused to let me leave the hospital — fearing internal bleeding — I knew I had to finally tell my husband and family. He flew in immediately, and I braced myself for what was next.

My surgery ended up being more complicated than anyone expected. It took nearly six hours. The surgeons removed a 7 cm cyst, repaired damage to my large intestine, and removed what they called a “disastrous” amount of adhesions. I was bleeding excessively, so they had to remove my fallopian tube. Thankfully, my ovary was saved — but now, I no longer have a tube.

This has been physically and emotionally overwhelming, but I’m thankful to be alive and on the road to recovery. I’m expected to be out of work for 6–8 weeks while I heal, and while my heart is focused on recovery, I’m also facing the heavy burden of not being able to work during this time.

If you know me, you know I work hard, care deeply for others, and rarely ask for help. But this time, I’m humbly asking. If you’re able to contribute anything to support my recovery — to help me cover expenses, bills, and ease the financial stress — it would mean the world to me and my family.

This experience reminded me that health is everything — and sometimes, God stops us in our tracks to show us that. I’m listening now.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love, support, and prayers. Every donation, every message, and every kind thought is felt and appreciated more than words can say.

With love and gratitude,
Judy
