Hey everyone!
My name is Carys and this is my friend Judenel.
Judenel is 33 years old, he is a builder and an entrepreneur from Haiti. He has been living and working in the US for just over a year, on a two year visa. He has been living with his brother in Boston and various friends in Oregon, us included.
Years ago when my mother worked as a midwife in Haiti, she met Judenel. He was the ambulence driver that helped the midwives back and forth from the hospital.
Judenel has an expansive array of skills, from painting houses to farming to driving big machinery.
Before he left Haiti he had been building a hotel. He owns the land, which is a lush jungle of palm and mango trees, and he has done the beginning work on the structure, as you can see in the photos.
The foundation is complete. There is a main room whose walls are fully stacked. There will be 7 guest rooms, all with their own bathrooms. These room have been build up about half way.
The plan is to have these rooms on the bottom floor with a second story restaurant. This second story would have big views of the beauty of the Haitian jungle landscape.
He has a septic system dug and installed.
Electricity is hard to come by in Haiti, so he has dreams of putting solar panels atop his building.
Judenel left Haiti for various reasons. The country has been in a state of gang war since 2020. While many people are internally displaced, including Judenel's 9-year-old son and his mother, Judenel chose to leave the country with the considerable potential of sending money home to his family.
As Judenel's time in the U.S. under his visa is short-lived, we are seeking options for him. If he were to seek asylum in the U.S. he would not be allowed to return to his country, and his child. Currently, it is very dangerous for him to return to Haiti, but if he were to be able to return, which he would love to do, he needs to be able to support himself and his family. If we can raise enough money for him to continue to build the hotel, he has an option to survive financially in Haiti.
This is the request.
Thank you for reading and I hope you can spare some money to support our friend.
I feel so much gratitude for my town and community and safe life in this country. Thank you all for being a part of it.
