Last November, my father-in-law Juan suffered a catastrophic stroke that changed his life and our family’s world overnight. We made sure he was transferred to UMC, where we knew he would receive the best care possible. It is truly a miracle that he survived, and now we are focused on his rehabilitation. Despite the severity of the stroke, Juan’s determination shines through every day as he works hard to regain the function of the right side of his body and relearn the basic tasks of daily life.

This journey has come with a deep financial impact. Juan’s income stopped immediately due to his inability to work, and his wife had to quit her job to care for him full-time. For the past four months, they have been without any income, and the financial stress has been overwhelming. Medical expenses and copayments continue to pour in, and even with insurance, the costs are more than his wife can manage alone.

Before his stroke, Juan was a talented painter, a passionate griller, a fisherman, a chess enthusiast, and an artist. He is working tirelessly to recover, and we want to support him and his wife through this difficult phase.
