Hello, my name is Gina and recently my husband Juan underwent a life-changing surgery. On April 9th, he fell ill and was taken to the emergency room. After several blood tests and CT scans, he was diagnosed critically ill with liver and kidney failure and an infection in his blood. I was told I needed to start thinking and making decisions about his quality of life and to make him comfortable but I refused to accept that outcome. He fought for his life and like the warrior he is, and with God by his side, he showed enough improvement for the doctors to approve him for surgery. My husband was able to receive an emergency liver transplant and has been recovering at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His body has been reacting well to the new liver, and we anticipated being discharged from the hospital in a week, but we need to have lodging within 20 minutes of the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks. My husband is a veteran and has insurance through the VA, but we are responsible for a large portion of his medical bills and the post-op lodging aftercare. With him being out of work, we are financially limited and can use any help possible.
