Hi everyone. My name is Ismael Cordova-Clough, and I am part of a team of legal observers monitoring law enforcement activity in Minneapolis. Through this work, I directly connected with and am supporting Juan Carlos, a resident.
Juan Carlos has permitted me to share these photos and this update. Once his phone is fully set up, he plans to make his own Facebook post as well.
Juan Carlos is a U.S. resident who is currently unhoused and living in his car. Yesterday, 1/9, around noon, while observing ICE activity near 22nd & Chicago in Minneapolis, he was targeted and assaulted. He was taken first to Whipple and then transported to the hospital because he was having difficulty breathing. After holding him in shackles for two hours and intimidating hospital staff, La Migra left him at the hospital.
I am working directly with Juan Carlos to support him in the aftermath of this assault. Any funds raised will be used on his behalf to cover immediate and short-term needs, including:
- Retrieving his car from the impound lot
- Paying the $80 ticket he was issued after the assault and any legal fees
- Placing Juan Carlos in a hotel for immediate safety and recovery
- Assisting with a short-term rental once he is stable enough, until he is back on his feet
- Supporting basic necessities and follow-up needs related to his safety and recovery
Funds will be delivered directly to Juan Carlos by me, or used by me with his consent to pay for housing, transportation, and other recovery-related expenses. I will provide updates as funds are used and as his situation stabilizes.
Right now, our priority is his safety, housing, and recovery after this incident.
