URGENT: HELP US BRING JUAN ALATORRE HOME!

WE NEED OUR ENTIRE SKAGIT VALLEY COMMUNITY TO MAKE SOME NOISE!

Juan Alatorre has been detained by ICE since early August. On October 8, an immigration judge made it clear that Juan should not be sitting in detention because of a paperwork issue.

The judge told Juan there was no reason he should spend ONE MORE DAY in detention over biometrics paperwork.

That paperwork has already been submitted. It was taken care of some time ago.

AND YET, TWO WEEKS LATER, JUAN IS STILL BEHIND BARS.

Why?

Why is a man still being held when the judge has made it clear that a paperwork issue should not be keeping him there?

Juan has lost more than two months of his freedom, his income, and precious time with the people who love him.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

We need your help. Not tomorrow. NOW.

We are asking everyone who knows Juan, everyone in Skagit Valley, and everyone who believes people deserve to be treated fairly to pick up the phone.

Call our senators. Call our congressman. Call the news.

We need to rattle the chains of every agency and office that can help get answers and get Juan released.

HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN SAY:

“I’m calling about Juan Alatorre, a member of our Skagit Valley community who has been held in ICE detention since early August.

At his October 8 hearing, the immigration judge told Juan there was no reason he should spend another day in detention over a biometrics paperwork issue.

That paperwork has already been submitted, yet Juan is still detained two weeks later.

We are asking your office to intervene urgently, find out why Juan is still being held, and help secure his release.”

PLEASE HELP US FIX THIS.

Juan is a real person. He is our neighbor. He is part of our community.

He deserves to go home.

This isn’t about politics. This is about a man who has been sitting in detention while a paperwork issue stands between him and his freedom.

If a judge says a man should not spend one more day in detention over paperwork, how are we still here two weeks later?

We need answers, accountability, and action.

Please call. Please email. Please share this update with everyone you know.

Let’s make enough noise that somebody finally listens.

Let’s rattle every chain, knock on every door, and keep asking questions until Juan is free.

BRING JUAN HOME.

Update on October 8th hearing at Tacoma ICE facility:
It was a positive day in court but yet another hurdle arose. Although the judge was supportive, there was an issue of a missing biometric document. This administrative issue is to be addressed swiftly. Another hearing was scheduled for November 5th. Juan remains detained. There may be a chance of this being resolved and Juan released earlier. Optimistic supporters were able to only see him and his appreciative look. All were disappointed by this administrative dilemma and we must continue to solicit financial help.
Juan will have been detained 4 months without income or means to take care of responsibilities. I forsee and additional $3K to $5K for legal fees and $5K to $10K to help him resolve debt and resume his previous livelihood.
We hope to continue fundraising to reach this goal and are greatful to the 236 donors, those who have written letters, shared Juan's story, attended court, and stood beside him. We are close to helping him get his life back. Please help us continue.

Original story posted:
Juan is a beloved friend and community member in Conway. If someone has spent any real time in town, there is a good chance they know Juan. For years, Juan worked at the local gas station, but Juan was never just the person behind the counter. Neighbors jokingly called Juan the “Mayor of Conway” because Juan seemed to know everyone. Juan welcomed regulars, noticed when someone had not stopped by in a while, and brought kindness, laughter, and conversation to neighbors, farmers, travelers, and families alike. Early one morning, Juan was detained by ICE, and since then Juan has been separated from the community that has cared about him for years. Juan has no criminal record and had already been working toward resolving his immigration status and pursuing lawful permanent residency before this happened.

Now Juan is facing a complicated and unusual immigration court process that no one should have to go through alone. Immigration court is high-stakes and frightening, with hearings, deadlines, evidence requirements, legal arguments, government attorneys, and decisions that can have life-changing consequences. Without an attorney, Juan will most likely be removed from the country. The encouraging news is that Juan has a great legal team with Seifert Law standing beside him. Seifert Law can review Juan’s immigration history, determine what relief may be legally available, develop a clear legal strategy, prepare and file applications, gather supporting evidence and documentation, coordinate requirements involving immigration court, USCIS, ICE, and other agencies, address biometrics and background checks, arrange the required immigration medical exam at the appropriate stage, prepare Juan for hearings, and represent him in court. Based on the legal review of Juan’s case, there appears to be a very unusual potential avenue for relief, including the possibility of pursuing adjustment of status through the immigration process. No outcome can be guaranteed, but this is not a hopeless case. With experienced attorneys standing beside him, Juan has real reason for hope and a real opportunity to pursue the legal path available to him.

Juan’s next hearing is on October 8, so this need is urgent. Funds are needed right away for the legal work, government fees, and Juan’s medical exam to help show that Juan is doing the right thing to fix a green card issue and move forward through the proper legal process. No single friend or family member can carry this expense alone, which is why Tim and Juan’s friends are asking the Conway community, along with anyone moved by Juan’s story, to come together for him. All funds raised will go directly to Seifert Law for Juan’s legal defense. Every donation, big or small, helps fund that work and brings Juan closer to home. If donating is not possible, please share this fundraiser with friends, family, neighbors, former coworkers, and anyone who remembers Juan from the gas station. Juan has spent years being there for others. Now Juan needs people standing beside him so Juan does not have to face immigration court alone.
