Hey everyone, I’m Morgan Costello and I’m starting this GoFundMe to support my nephew and his family (his mom is my sister) as they navigate through his unexpected diagnosis.
J.T. started experiencing hip pain a few weeks ago following one of his baseball games. They initially thought he irritated something in his hip when sliding to one of the bases. Unfortunately, after an ER trip, they discovered it was actually something much bigger than a minor irritation. He was diagnosed with Perthes Disease, which is a rare childhood condition where the blood supply to the ball of the hip joint (the femoral head) is temporarily disrupted. This causes the bone to weaken, break down, and temporarily collapse. Just days after the diagnosis, JT woke up unable to walk due to the pain, which then resulted in another ER trip where he was advised to completely stay off of his hip. So he has been between a wheelchair and crutches for the last couple weeks.
Today, they had a follow-up appointment to go more in-depth into his current situation and the route of treatment needed. They were told he will need 2 surgeries and will spend months to a year in a cast and a brace to help heal his hip. He will need around-the-clock care, meaning his mom will have to be out of work for an unknown period of time depending on how his body responds to the treatment. This will put their family in a financial strain for the time being.
Of course, prayers are the main thing needed for J.T.; however, any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated and helpful for their family in the time his mom has to be out of work caring for him and their 2 other children.
JT has been playing baseball since he was 4 years old and had just recently made the 8u All Star team. This coming on so suddenly has resulted in him obviously being unable to continue playing baseball which has been devastating for him. It’s been extremely hard on him to go from an extremely active 8 year old, playing baseball 3-4 times a week, to being wheelchair bound 24/7. It’s taken an emotional toll on the entire family so the least I could try to do is set them up to be supported financially through this difficult season of their lives. We greatly appreciate anyone and everyone who is able to support them, whether it be with prayers, financial donations or both. Thank you!!
