Support Joy Rice's Fight for Legal Action

My name is Joy Rice, and I’m a survivor of sexual violence.

I am raising funds to hire a civil attorney to take legal action against Devann Yao, a man who stole my virginity, drugged and raped me, and was still allowed to work as a party promoter in Miami despite having an active criminal record and multiple women accusing him of sexual assault.

After I came forward, the State Attorney’s Office dropped the charges — not because the harm didn’t happen, but because they claimed they didn’t believe they could win. They were negligent throughout the process:

• They shared incorrect information

• Failed to collect or present key evidence,

• And sent my deposition just two days before the hearing.

Since then, my story has gone viral — and other survivors have come forward sharing their experiences with this same man. This isn’t just about me anymore. This is about a known predator who was enabled by systems that should have protected us.

These funds will allow me to:

• Hire legal representation and file a civil lawsuit

• Cover related legal and court costs

• Create a legal support fund for other women harmed by him if they choose to come forward
