Monique O. Madan has spent her career fighting for others. Her reporting has helped reunite families, free people from prison, and save lives. She’s long been a voice for those without one. Now, she needs her community to be that voice for her.
We’re coming together to support Monique O. Madan—a mother of two and powerhouse investigative journalist—during an incredibly challenging and vulnerable moment in her life.
Two months before giving birth to her second child, Monique was unexpectedly laid off due to budget cuts. Along with the loss of income came the sudden loss of health insurance—at the height of a high-risk pregnancy. COBRA coverage was priced at more than $3,500 per month, making it unattainable. She lost access to her medical team and had to change providers for herself and her family while preparing for a major surgery and the arrival of a newborn. As a remote employee working across state lines, Monique is also not eligible for unemployment benefits—leaving her family without a critical safety net during this time.
Monique had planned to take the seven months of paid parental leave she was eligible for to recover and care for her growing family. Instead, she’s navigating a complicated, lengthy postpartum recovery while trying to stay afloat on her husband’s single income. To help cover essential expenses, she has been selling personal items online.
We’re raising funds to help Monique cover the most urgent and pressing needs: mortgage, missed payments, car payments, insurance premiums, groceries, medical bills since the layoff, future healthcare costs, therapy, utilities, necessary medications and more for her and her children as she works to get back on her feet.
Monique has always shown up for others. Let’s show up for her.
Thank you for your love, generosity, and support. Every donation, share, and prayer matters more than you know.
