At just 15 years old, Josue has endured more pain and survived more crises than most people do in a lifetime. Born with Spina Bifida, he has always been a fighter, but the last year has been a relentless battle for his life.
The nightmare began when Josue was rushed to the ER with a rare and aggressive bone infection called Osteomyelitis. Doctors initially tried a desperate surgery to save his right leg, leaving the bone exposed and creating multiple wounds to drain the infection. Despite these efforts, the infection was life-threatening. To save his life, doctors had to perform an amputation.
Josue spent four months in the hospital, but the battle wasn't over. In March 2025, the infection and complications claimed his left leg as well.
Now a bilateral (double) below-the-knee amputee, on December 10, 2025 Josue also underwent a major spinal fusion surgery to stabilize his back. While the surgery was necessary, he emerged in a delicate and terrifying state. He suffered a severe systemic allergic reaction, with hives covering his entire body. His condition became so critical that he required a blood transfusion and was placed in the ICU.
Watching him fight for every breath after everything he has already lost has been heartbreaking. We are back at the beginning of a long, painful recovery, and the physical and emotional toll is immense. After months of agony and surgeries, we find ourselves back at the very beginning of a long, intense recovery process.
We are reaching out today because we have hit a wall that we cannot climb alone. Josue’s health insurance has denied coverage for his needs. They have cited an "exhaustion of benefits," and in a devastating turn, they have labeled his life-saving amputations as "elective" rather than medically necessary. Because of this, the astronomical costs of his 4-month hospital stay, his surgeries, and his future care have fallen entirely on our shoulders.
As a double amputee recovering from spinal surgery, Josue requires specialized care that our family simply cannot afford out of pocket. Your donations will go directly toward:
• Intensive Physical Therapy: To help Josue learn how to move, sit, and eventually use prosthetics with his newly fused spine.
• Medical Debt: Paying off the hospital stays and the surgeries insurance refused to cover.
• Prosthetics & Equipment: Obtaining prosthetics, ongoing fittings and specialized equipment for his recovery / mobility aids Josue needs to regain his independence.
• Home Accessibility: Essential modifications to allow Josue to live with dignity and independence.
We are humbly asking for your support not just to pay bills, but to give Josue a future. He is a brave 15-year-old boy who has lost his legs but kept his soul.
• Donate: Any amount, no matter how small, helps us cover a therapy session or a medical supply.
• Share: Please share Josue’s story on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
• Advocate: By sharing, you help us bring light to the reality of his situation and the struggle with insurance.
Josue has been through the fire, and he is still standing, just in a different way now. Thank you for being the support system he needs to keep going.
