Josue's Story:
Josue is 23, is from Morelos Mexico, and has been living in Canada since September 2023. He currently resides in Metro Vancouver with his siblings, and was unexpectedly diagnosed with a Stage 4 Genitourinary Tumour in mid May, 2026.
Josue is now receiving cancer treatment at the BC Cancer Agency in Vancouver, and is experiencing a lot pain and discomfort throughout the process.
Josue is also facing a huge financial burden when he should be focusing on his health. While currently navigating his status in Canada, he does not have any medical coverage.
He came to Canada to be with his sibling on an Electronic Travel Authorization, and hadn't quite been approved for a visa or permit before diagnosis.
Now out of the refugee application window, his condition also makes him ineligible for most pathways to residency, meaning all treatment must be paid out of pocket.
At the same time, it is not recommended he delay or travel for treatment because of the severity and vulnerability of his condition. He is currently a medical flight risk, and that is the main reason why he is not returning to Morelos.
That being said, he does have a large support system and abundant treatment resources in Vancouver. He has a 70% chance at a full recovery after 4 cycles of chemotherapy over 12 weeks, 1-3 operations, and radiation where the recovery process will span the rest of 2026.
Before diagnosis Josue worked in construction, and he enjoys reading manga, watching anime, drawing, being around pets, and playing video games.
You can help Josue get back to his normal activities and beat his cancer through a financial contribution.
This fundraiser will be put towards his medical bills, and regular expenses that come up while he is out of work the rest of the year.
Please keep Josue in your prayers.
