My name is Josi Torres. I am Brazilian, and I live in England with my husband and our young son, Luís Olavo.
We arrived in the UK in 2018 with nothing but a suitcase, a baby in our arms, and an unshakeable hope for a better life. After years of sacrifice and hard work, we finally found stability. I built a small but thriving business as a manicurist, while supporting my husband — a dedicated chef — so we could provide a future for our son. In January, we took a huge step and moved into our very first flat — a moment that felt like a dream come true.
But just weeks later, everything changed.
In April, I received the devastating news that I have three brain tumours (meningiomas). One is pushing my right eye forward, causing immense pain and visual issues. The other two are affecting my nervous system, triggering frequent and terrifying seizures. I can no longer work, drive, or walk unaided. I need full-time supervision — and the vibrant, independent woman I was is now trapped in a body I barely understand.
Our family income has been slashed in half. My husband is now not only the sole breadwinner, but also my carer, homemaker, and full-time father to our little boy. Emotionally and financially, we are at breaking point.
I urgently need two brain surgeries. The first, a high-risk operation, will involve removing part of the bone behind my right eye to extract the tumour. The second, while less complex, will still involve operating on my brain to remove the remaining tumours. We are currently in a painful waiting period while doctors decide the best course — but time, and money, are slipping away.
This is a heartfelt plea for help.
Your donation, no matter the size, will help us pay basic bills, keep our home safe and stable for our son, and allow my husband to care for me without fear of how we will survive the next month.
If you cannot donate, please share my story. You could be the reason our miracle arrives.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us in our darkest moment.
With love, faith, and endless gratitude,
Josi
