In the early morning hours of March 16th, I rushed my 4 year old dog Josie to the vet ER when I realized that during the course of the night, she had completely lost the ability to use her back legs. The ER referred me to a Neurology Specialist Vet, where Josie was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease. Josie had the most severe version of it, but because we thankfully got her into surgery within 24 hours of her losing feeling in her legs, she was given a 50% chance to ever gain mobility in her back legs again, but there was a 20% chance of her not surviving the first 72 hours.
That morning, I paid a $13,800 deposit in order to get Josie the surgery she desperately needed within that 24 hour time slot: there was no time to ‘shop price’ at different hospitals, and no choice but to pay the deposit upfront via credit card with funds I did not have. Even not considering the upfront surgery bill, there will be many more costs to come: check up appointments, medications, mobility aid equipment, etc.
Josie was the most athletic small dog I had ever seen, and her absolute favorite things to do included running wild at the dog beach and hiking trails with me. While she may never be able to do these things again, I am determined to give her the happiest and healthiest life I possibly can. And I am asking for your help to make that happen. Absolutely anything helps, and thank you for helping a young dog live a great life despite the hand she was dealt.
