Three years ago, my brother Joshua was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at just 21 years old. Despite this life-changing diagnosis, Joshua never let it define him. For the past two years, he continued to work and bring positivity to everyone around him, refusing to let his illness take over his life. He has undergone more than five surgeries, but unfortunately, none have brought the relief we hoped for. Over the last year, Joshua’s heart has weakened to an extreme level, leaving him drained and unable to control much of his daily life.
Recently, Joshua has been in and out of the hospital for over two months, and he is now waiting to undergo his seventh surgery. Through it all, his nurses and doctors have been incredible, and Joshua’s light and lovable spirit has touched everyone he meets. I truly don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who hasn’t loved him—he brings joy and kindness wherever he goes.
Joshua’s biggest dream has always been to make sure his mom and I are okay. He loves traveling, exploring, and trying new things. Even now, his greatest wish is for us to be safe and happy. Our mother, who is almost one year in remission from breast cancer, has been Joshua’s rock throughout this journey. Together, they have supported each other through unimaginable challenges. Even as life has been unfair, we continue to hold onto hope and support each other as a family.
With Joshua in the hospital and our mother unable to work, our financial situation has become overwhelming. We are struggling to cover medical bills and living expenses while Joshua waits on the heart transplant list. As his 25th birthday approaches and he spends it in the hospital, we want to bring any positivity and faith we can to him. My biggest message for everyone is to do it now while you can and love like there’s no tomorrow—we always think it would never happen to us until it does. We are reaching out for support, love, and help to get through these difficult times. Any contribution or prayer will help ease the pain and stress for Joshua and our family as we continue to hope for better days.
