Joshua Lee Hunt was born on February 24, 1996, and passed away June 11, 2024. Joshua was in no pain and family was by his side. As you may know Joshua battled with Congenital Myasthenia Gravis his entire life.
He was born with paralyzed vocal cords and had a tracheostomy tube placed at 3 months old. After many doctors’ appointments he had surgery to reconstruct his trachea by using cartilage from his ribs. We thought finally he could live a normal life like all the other kids. Joshua started to experience muscle weakness which caused him to struggle to stand, walk, and eat. It was then confirmed Joshua had Congenital Myasthenia Gravis a disorder that involves muscles weakness and fatigue. It happens when chemicals called neurotransmitters that help relay information between the nerve cells and muscles are not properly released and received. There is no cure and eventually affects the lungs and heart.
We did not know at that time what life would look like for Josh. He no longer was able to walk and now used a wheelchair full-time. This was very heart breaking. Joshua loved all the things boys loved. He loved to fish, swim, camp, video games, music, and more than anything he loved dirt bikes. Even though he could not physically ride, he was a motocross feen. He owned all the dirt bike videos, had all the dirt bike gear, and attended motocross with his dad and brothers.
As parents we decided to let him live his life and do what made him happy. He did all the things his brothers and friends did but modified. Including riding his very own quad.
As he became an adult, he had the freedom of a motorized wheelchair and came and went as he pleased. He would spend his days at his favorite restaurant Mel Dogs and met friends of all ages. In the evening, he enjoyed dirt bike games and spending time with family. He was living his best life and was happy.
This year in February he celebrated his 28th birthday. Soon after he started slowing down, becoming weaker and having a challenging time breathing. In March he had to be rushed to the hospital where doctors told him a tracheotomy would eventually be permanent. Joshua made the hardest decision of his life and decided he did not want to live that way. He came home and spent the next 2 months saying goodbye to all his family and friends until one day he went to sleep forever.
Joshua's story is one of incredible strength and resilience, marked by the unwavering love and support of his family and friends. From the very beginning, Joshua faced immense challenges with courage and determination, overcoming obstacles that would have seemed impossible to many.
It is heart-wrenching to think about the struggles Joshua endured, but it is also inspiring to see how he found joy and happiness in the midst of adversity. Despite his physical limitations, he lived life to the fullest, embracing his passions and creating cherished memories with those he loved.
The decision Joshua made towards the end of his life was undoubtedly difficult, but it was a testament to his strength and his unwavering spirit. His legacy of love, resilience, and the ability to find happiness in even the darkest of times will continue to inspire all who knew him.
As we all navigate through this time of grief, we find comfort in the memories we shared with Josh and in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by his presence.
The family would like to hold a celebration of life and invite everyone who loved and knew him. Organizing such an event is costly, but the family is putting all their effort into ensuring Joshua's life is celebrated in a meaningful way.
The family is asking for your support during this difficult time. The cost of holding a celebration of life where everyone could come together and share stories and pictures of Joshua is expensive, but bringing everyone together is what Joshua would have wanted. We want to be able to celebrate with everyone who loved and knew him.
There are so many other cost that the family has taken on and this would not be possible without your support. At this time of heartbreak and mourning any help with this additional burden means the world to our family and allows us to focus on celebrating Joshua with everyone. We are forever grateful for anything you choose to contribute.
Joshua's memory will forever be cherished, and his impact on the world will never be forgotten. Invitation to his celebration of life will be posted on all social media pages. Everyone is invited, please share and spread the word.
