For over a decade, Josh has dedicated his life to healing others as a passionate chiropractor, most recently spending eight years building a clinic and serving the community in Peru. He is known for his persistence, independence, kind soul, and unwavering desire to help people live optimally.

Now, Josh needs us to step up and help him fight the battle for his own life.

The Sudden Crisis

While in Atlanta, the day before Thanksgiving 2023, Josh was rushed to the hospital after a concerning lab test. Even though he felt fine, he was shocked to hear the diagnosis of…. End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), the cause of which remains unknown.

The first nephrologist delivered a devastating and bleak outlook, suggesting there was little chance of survival. But if you know Josh, you know he refuses to quit. He quickly sought second opinions in Atlanta, and moved back home to Pittsburgh in early 2024 to find specialists who shared his hopeful perspective.

The Fight for Time and the Transplant Goal

Josh found his current nephrologist in Pittsburgh, who has committed to helping him stay strong and healthy until he can secure a spot on the kidney transplant list.

In August 2024, to fight this disease and buy time, Josh started dialysis for 10 hours a night on a machine and a manual exchange during the day. This grueling regimen is his bridge to a transplant; a necessary step that requires immense physical and mental discipline.

A Helper's Heart, A Helper's Dilemma

Josh is a person who finds purpose in helping others. His greatest desire is to get back to providing chiropractic care in his community. He has already found a small office space in Center Twp and is working hard to establish a new practice.

However, building a new practice from the ground up requires time and energy, which his medical state often limits. To bring in some income, he is currently substitute teaching. While he is grateful for the work, the income is unreliable; some weeks have few or no openings, making it impossible to stay on top of medical bills and essential living expenses.

This is the ultimate challenge for someone who is so independent and always the one giving to others:  asking for help.
