I am the mother of one of the most amazing, intelligent, kind hearted, resilient, respectful, nothing can hold him down man in the universe. Unfortunately on June 27 Joshell was walking home from work and legally crossing one of the busiest intersections in North Platte and was hit by an SUV. Thankfully he was able to get himself up off of the pavement and move all of his extremities, the driver of this vehicle proceeded to drive away and did not render any aid whatsoever. My dad ended up taking Joshell to the Hospital-ER where he had multiple tests ran and was treated and released. He suffered from road rash, a wound to his elbow, pain to his upper back/spine area, and a sore body. Thankfully he was given some time off from his job. Joshell is a dedicated employee and very rarely misses a shift.
Joshell was was born 3 & 1/2 months early and was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy. His condition affects his legs and muscles. He tends to walk without his heels striking the ground which in turn makes him more prone to falling. Despite this Joshell has walked to and from his job for a couple of years off and on. When Joshell was 17 he was accidentally shot in his head which left him with a shattered skull from his ear to most of his forehead and is also missing most of his frontal lobe. He also has to take seizure medicine for the remainder of his life due to bullet fragments remaining in his brain. Despite the meds he has had multiple seizures over the years. Since his shooting his thought processes have been different. He is accountable for all of his actions, no matter what they are, he refuses to lie without even thinking about it. He tends to believe most things that are said to him whether true or false. He loves unconditionally even when he isn’t treated with the utmost respect he deserves. He has been through soo many things in his lifetime and this just happens to be another warrior story he can say he overcame. He is our Warrior since birth and from day 1! My son has beaten so many odds and has more purpose in this lifetime than anyone I know. Literally NOTHING can hold him down!
With this current situation at hand, instead of heeling his body and mind from the trauma, Joshell is worried about missing work and how he is going to pay the hospital bills and his monthly bills along with daily expenses. If anyone is able to donate or share this post I would appreciate it for him. We all pray that whoever this was that hit him and drove off has the heart to step forward and take responsibility for this. Joshell and I don’t wish ill will on anyone and would be forgiving but you have to own up to what you did to him.
I am attaching the North Platte Police Departments post if anyone knows anything please reach out to myself, Joshell, or the police please. Thank you all for keeping Joshell lifted in prayer as he continues to heal.
