Update to Josh's Journey - July 8 : 10 days post accident:
Josh's attitude is amazing. One week after his devastating accident and two surgeries, Josh was cleared to move to a Rehab facility. He started PT day 9 post accident. This guy is so determined to get back on track and continue with his life and studies. At this point we're thinking there's not much that's going to stop Josh Hvegholm.
The outpouring of caring from family, friends and strangers has been phenomenal. Thank you all for your continued love, support, donations, and sharing this GoFundMe.
Did you know the average replacement of a prosthetic leg occurs every three to five years? Josh's GoFundMe is devoted to ensuring this amazing young man receives everything he needs in this regard...now and beyond.
Josh's Story:
On Saturday evening, June 29th, my 24-year-old nephew Josh Hvegholm was airlifted to Renown Hospital in Reno, NV, after experiencing a dirt bike accident while on a camping trip with his dad, Marc Hvegholm. Just before sunset, Marc found Josh gravely injured, lying at the bottom of a 6' ravine.
Josh is currently recovering from a fractured orbital eye socket, broken nose and pelvis, two broken legs; one was repaired with surgery, the right leg amputated below the knee due extensive vascular damage.
While an extraordinarily traumatic event, Josh remains in good spirits during this adjustment. Through this experience, Josh continues to make family, friends, and nurses smile. His sunny disposition is contagious and he is loved by all who know him.
A respected second year Radiology Program student at TMCC, with a 4.0 GPA, serving as Class President and Class Representative, Josh is eager to get his life back on track and graduate to begin helping others through his work. With his tenacity, we know nothing is impossible for him! When Josh isn’t focused on school, he enjoys spending time riding dirt bikes (he still wants a Harley one day), with his family and friends, his dogs, fishing, swimming and being outdoors.
Funds raised will support Josh in his recovery and allow him to get back to work in the Renown IR Interventional Radiology Department where he started on Friday, June 28th, the day before his accident. He will need prosthesis, a care retrofit so he can continue living an independent life, along with physical therapy and many additional needs.
Josh is determined to move forward with his life, school, and career as soon as possible, and we want to do everything possible to help him succeed as that’s what he’s done for everyone else in his life. All of his family and friends are so deeply grateful this young man is still here with us. We know he is destined for something phenomenal in this life and we can’t wait to see what he will accomplish!
Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts. Please share his story with your social networks. We will update Josh’s progress as he moves forward in this journey.
