Support Josh - Help Replace His Stolen Car

Donation protected
Hi all,

My name's Josh and I'm a nurse living in Denver, Colorado. As many of you know, my vehicle, with a slew of unloaded gear, was taken from my Cap Hill neighborhood in Denver the week before Christmas. There's no way to locate it according to the police, Subaru, Starlink, and Sirius XM, and from what I can remember, there's nothing with GPS capability inside. To make matters worse, when I paid off the vehicle, the comprehensive coverage protecting the bank became optional, and not knowing, I updated my insurance coverage and never reselected it, meaning I had been driving a car around for months with liability coverage. The result is that insurance won't cover the theft. With student loan payments now active (at $1,000 a month - ), I quite literally can't afford a car note, and biking to work in the Denver winter has become a bit too frigid. This has created a whirlwind of issues, from errands to groceries to pulling my application to finish grad school.

It feels ridiculous to ask of others inside a world where we're all struggling to make ends meet, but I guess that's what I'm doing (at the insistence of some very pesky (and very good) friends).

We've set the goal at $15,000, which also feels ridiculous. I'd like to say it's too much - that with just a few dollars of help I could cover the difference.

The truth is, I can't.

My budget is as slim as I could make it - no thrills, subscriptions, and I'm handwashing my dishes in what amounts to a studio. Between two jobs, I'm working as much as I can and saving every dime.

The other truth is, I need a reliable AWD vehicle that can handle the variable weather conditions of Denver. I need the car I bought (or something comparable).

To replace that thing in its current state, factoring tag fees, registration costs, etc., it'd cost around $18,000 (by our best estimate through some exhaustive research). In a winter city, used AWD vehicles are in high demand, which unfortunately ticks up their price. I'm hoping to sell off the rest of my outdoor gear to cover the $3,000 difference between this and the listed goal.

The past month has been rough, and I'm very much out of ideas.

So, vulnerably, I'm asking for help - help that I really do need to get back on my feet—or wheels, rather. If you can chip in a few bucks or some kind words, or share this with someone who might, I'd be forever grateful. If you can't - please don't.
In any case, thank you for taking the time to read this, for caring, and for reminding me that community is the best safety net we've got.

All the best in the world, friends,

- J
