Support Josh and Sylvie's Journey to Recovery

My name is Andy Moreland, and I have never done this before, so please bear with me. I'm sure most of you have heard about what's going on in Asheville, NC. Mainstream media hasn't really covered the catastrophic situation going on, but independent journalists on YouTube have been.

First, a little about the reason I am making this GoFundMe account. My roommate and I literally lost everything. Our home is literally 5-10 miles away from where it used to sit. But that's not the main reason I'm asking for help. The main reason is my roommate Josh has a dog named Sylvie that is his absolute world, and they saved each other. Well, upon climbing onto the roof of our home, she slipped and fell into the raging flood waters. Without hesitation, Josh jumped from the roof into the flooding waters to get Sylvie. I saw them emerge from underwater, but they were both carried away downriver. I had no clue what happened to Josh or his dog Sylvie until earlier today when I was notified of his dog's arrival at a veterinarian hospital because they were able to message Josh's phone because of her ID tag. I was also informed Josh was okay. Communication has been impossible due to cell service being down.

Now, the reason I'm starting a fundraiser is for Sylvie, Josh's dog, who got a little banged up. She has a side laceration, most likely from debris in the water, and a broken bone or two. I have no idea how Josh is going to pay for this, nor I. We literally just lost it all. It's gone, all gone. Both of us were homeless a few years back while we were skipped over on the voucher list for the housing authority here for almost 5 years. It's almost certain we will be homeless again for some time at least until we can find a home. I don't know how much Sylvie's vet bill will be, but that's his best friend. That's family to him and has become family to me. She has been with him for 4+ years now, and they have never spent a night apart until now. He doesn't know I'm doing this, but it's his only hope at this point, I truly believe.

This city did not prepare for such a catastrophic event, and a lot of people have been neglected who have needed help. I understand that there are still people missing, and they can only move so fast, but at what point do officials start taking warnings seriously? We have way, way, way too many catastrophic situations because someone who was in charge didn't take the warnings seriously because it's never happened before.

If you have finished, thank you for reading through. I think I covered everything I needed to. Like I said before, I have never made one of these but had no choice. Thank you all, and stay safe, WNC.
