On July 6th, Jose went into the hospital for a scheduled outpatient neck surgery. He was expected to stay overnight and return home the following day.

Unfortunately, Jose developed a hematoma in his neck following the procedure, which led to cardiac arrest. He was placed in a coma and on life support. During the cardiac arrest, Jose experienced a lack of oxygen, which resulted in Monaclonus Lance Adam’s, a rare condition. Controlling the Monaclonus continues to be a challenge, as the only medication that stabilizes it his body is not accepting well at this time.

The good news is that Jose is doing great and making incredible strides. He is currently in a rehabilitation facility, working hard every day and continuing to make progress. While we are so grateful for how far he has come, he still has a long road ahead and is expected to remain in rehab for quite some time.

At this time, we don’t know when Jose will be able to return to work, which also means changes in his medical insurance. Barb has been unable to work while remaining by his side. Between the loss of income, insurance changes, medical and rehabilitation expenses, household bills, and other unexpected costs, the financial burden is significant.

If you know Barb and Jose, you know they are usually the ones helping everyone else. They are the first to step up, organize a fundraiser, or help a friend, family member, or someone in their community who is going through a difficult time. They have shown up for so many people over the years.

Now it’s our turn to show up for them.
