Jose Muniz is more than just a friend to me—he’s like a brother. We’ve worked together since 2006, and over the years, he’s been a constant source of support, especially when I was fighting stage four renal cancer. Now, Jose is facing his own battle. Several years ago, he began experiencing heart problems that forced him to leave work. Despite trying every medication and lifestyle change recommended, his condition only worsened. For the past two years, he’s been in and out of the hospital, undergoing countless tests and procedures. Six months ago, doctors installed a defibrillator, but his heart continued to decline. Finally, after a series of urgent tests, he was told he needed a heart transplant to survive. Thankfully, just two weeks ago, Jose received a compatible heart. The surgery went well, and he’s now on the road to recovery. But the journey has left him with overwhelming medical bills and debt, as he’s been unable to work and has had to rely on Social Security and a small veterans compensation. Jose is a proud Iraq war veteran, a devoted family man, and someone who has always put others first. He’s the kind of person who steps up when you need a friend, and now he needs our help.
