Support Jose Rios (Tato) Physical Rehabilitation

On April 27, 2019 my husband, our friend and brother, Jose (Tato) had a neck injury when he dived into the water at the beach.  He lost conscious and some water also went into his lungs. He was transported and has been in Aventura Hospital all this time. He had compression and bruise of the C2 to C4 spinal cord nerves causing paralysis from the neck down. He was in intensive care for a week and now he is on a stable condition. Eventhough he has made improvements day by day and he has recovered some sensation and small movement in his upper and lower body, his recovery will take some time and it will depend a lot on therapy, exercises and rehabilitation. He will have to retrain his brain and body through those. Unfortunately he did not have health insurance at the time of the accident. We are looking into federal programs as well as an emergency Medicaid in order to transfer him to Rehab center with full care but no luck on that yet and high medical expenses are already coming in and his treatment cannot wait longer.

Neurosurgeons have commented that with Jose’s health, positive attitude, and strong support system, he can make meaningful progress and potentially regain mobility during physical rehabilitation. This may take months, or even years, but Jose is completely determined to get back on his feet.

Your support is needed to help with medical expenses to start his physical rehabilitation. Also for living expenses/loss of income, out of pocket expenses that may incur during rehab, any special need due to his new disability.
