Hey y’all, my name is Joseph and I’m raising funds to help cover my tuition so I can stay enrolled at Clark Atlanta University, where I’m working toward my PhD in African American Studies.
I chose CAU because of its legacy. It was the first HBCU in the South and the first to award graduate degrees. I moved across state lines with virtually nothing just to be part of that legacy, and I’ve fallen in love with this place every day since.
In the past year, I’ve poured myself into my studies, my campus community, and my field. I’ve done archival research on Black history in Atlanta, interned with a historical museum, and served on graduate student government. I’ve also run a Black history education platform that’s reaching hundreds of people online.
I’m a first-generation PhD student doing all this while navigating life with autism and ADHD. I don’t have a financial safety net or family I can lean on for help. But I’ve made it this far by being resourceful, resilient, and relentless.
Now I just need a little support to keep going. Anything you can give will help me stay in school and continue the pursuit of my PhD. I appreciate you reading this and sharing if you’re able.
