Support Joseph Burrell: A Veteran in Need of Housing
Donation protected
Our beloved stepdad, Joseph Burrell, is a 74-year-old U.S. Army Veteran facing an incredibly challenging time. After serving our country in the Vietnam War, he volunteered 19 years for the American Red Cross, was a Deacon and a volunteer buildings and grounds supervisor at the former Church of Good news. He worked for years as a Security Supervisor for the Chicago Cubs. He’s now in a heartbreaking situation where he can't access the veteran benefits he earned and is facing homelessness. Joseph relies only on social security. Early August, we lost our wonderful mom, Cynthia Scott. For years, Joseph Burrell was her devoted caretaker. He lived with her, providing constant support and love. However, because he was solely her caregiver and not on the apartment lease, he is now being forced to move out of the only home he has known for years.
Adding to this immerse stress, the biggest hurdle is that the VA and other benefit systems are unable to locate his records. Despite his honorable service, he's been caught in a bureaucratic nightmare, unable to receive the essential benefits he
desperately needs for housing, medical care, and daily living expenses. We've exhausted every avenue we know, including trying to get help from the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) with NO Success. This situation has left him vulnerable and scared and without a safety net. We are scrambling to find him a safe, affordable place to live, but the immediate need is to cover the costs of moving and storage.
We need help with:
Security Deposit and First Month's Rent:
A moving truck movers and storage At 74 years old he can't do this alone and we need professional help to ensure his belongings are safely transported and stored until he finds a permanent home
Essential Living Expenses: To help him get settled while we continue to fight for his benefits.
Joseph Burrell has always been a proud and independent man, and it breaks our hearts to see him in such a dire situation. He dedicated years of his life to serving our nation and taking care of our mom. Now he needs our help. Any amount you can contribute, no matter how small, will make a profound difference in getting him into a secure environment.
Please help us give this deserving veteran the stability and dignity he deserves. We are also actively pursuing avenues to rectify his benefit situation and will provide updates. Thank you for your generosity, your compassion, and for helping us support a true American hero and our stepdad Joseph.
