Support Joey for Lung Transplant in San Francisco
Donation protected
Update: Joey is currently hospitalized with no chance of discharge without a successful double lung transplant. Everyday is a new obstacle, he has been placed on ECMO (a machine that filters his blood to oxygenate it) and the highest saturation of oxygen possible. His emotional state highly affects his stats at this point and in the instance of upsetting information his blood pressure rises and oxygen decreases. Time is of essence at the point in his journey.
Joey Borges, is facing a life-threatening condition that requires an urgent double lung transplant at UC San Francisco. Due to the expedited testing process, resources are unavailable. Joey's family is in a dire situation as they need help with expenses not covered by insurance, nor resources. They must relocate to San Francisco for the pre-transplant surgery and post-transplant care as part of the commitment for lung transplant. Without adequate resources, they are struggling to make financial support needed for Joey's life saving treatment.
The doctors have warned that without this transplant, nor the families reidness to move. Joey's condition will deteriorate rapidly, leading to a tragic outcome within a year. The family is reaching out for help as they cannot handle the financial burden alone. Your support can make a life-saving difference by ensuring Joey receives the treatment he urgently needs.

Hello, my name is Sativa Rio.
Several years ago, my father at only 43 years old, Joseph Borges now 47 was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease (Hypersensitive Pneumonitis and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis). For those unaware of this disease, it causes severe scarring in the lungs. This is a terminal illness with a life expectancy of 3 to 5 years. As of this point, it has been a little over 4 years since his diagnosis. His lung capacity has diminished to 38% lung function. He is currently on oxygen 24/7 to prevent organ failure. The illness has caused diminished kidney function along with necrosis to both of his hip bones. As the illness progresses, his body and brain, along with all of his organs will slowly start to shut down and die. Just a few weeks ago, he was transferred to a lung transplant team who are working diligently to get all the testing requirements finished to expedite him to the top of the transplant list.
A lung transplant is the only remaining treatment for this disease and without it, his body will begin completely shutting down within the year. There are rigorous requirements for a lung transplant. His team at UCFS has informed him that he has to be ready to leave for this transplant at the drop of a dime with an expectation of being at the hospital within 4 hours. This will require them to move to San Francisco temporarily right before and following the surgery due to time constraints on retaining the potential transplant lungs and a rigorous post-op care schedule. He has to be financially, emotionally, and physically supported to be able to receive this transplant.
As you can imagine traveling to doctor appointments is already financially difficult due to the 2-hour commute time which does not include rush hour traffic. They have been given a lengthy itinerary for testing. This transplant would cause a financial burden on anyone as the means to live in San Francisco alone are tremendous. Due to such constraints and the need for this transplant, income will be lost after the move. Any funds donated would be used to support my parents' lives in San Francisco including gas, food, rent, caretakers, medical expenses, and copays that are not covered by insurance as well as the move to San Francisco itself. We are not ready to lose him. He is a husband, a father to 3 daughters, and a grandfather to 7 grandchildren. Any donations are truly appreciated. Times are tough and we know that not everyone is going to be able to contribute, we do ask that whoever sees this please share!

I have always been able to provide and be a strong protector for my family.
But now, it hurts me to not be able to be how I should be for them. The unknown of what's going to happen has been hard on me and my family.

(THE BATTLE)
I'm scared, sad, and worried.
I have a lot of hoops to jump through (test). I mean a whole lot of ground to cover. As part of my commitment to receiving transplant. I was advised to make this gofundme. I need to be able to show I have support. Which includes mental, emotional, physical and financial support.
With many expenses for pre-transplant, post transplant not covered by insurance nor resources. I am asking for help. Financial help for gas, parking fees, food, expenses for travel, medication, copays ect. As well as help to relocate to San Francisco per terms of transplant.
This has definitely been the battle for my life. I'm getting through each challenge as they come. However the financial challenges have been the biggest of them all.
I have a chance to get a real life saving Double Lung Transplant.
I need more support to join me in this, fight to help me get Lungs to Breathe. I am not ready to leave my family and die. Please consider
