Support Jose Ramos' Liver Transplant Journey

Donation protected
UPDATE: 1/18
Goodmorning my dad is in recovery. The transplant went great! He’ll stay intubated for a few more hours then have it removed later on today. He had a huge clogged vein in the liver; as soon as they removed it they could see major change. So that is probably the main reason his condition ended up how it was but the transplant was done. New liver is functioning the way they want it to be. He’ll be in ICU for recovery and monitored for a few days then back onto the regular floor. I couldn’t thank all you so much for your kind worlds, prayers and support through this journey! We love and appreciate you all from the bottom of our hearts ❤️ & to my dad I LOVE YOU SO MUCH god is so big! He literally heard all our prayers and made this miracle happen for you to have a second chance at life we are still raising for expenses as we have to continue to stay locally for 30 days after discharge, housing, food, gas, parking, copays etc costs.

Hello everyone,
My name is Maria Ramos. I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my father, Jose Ramos. In August of 2018, my dad was diagnosed with liver failure. Throughout the years, doctors have been managing his condition with upper endoscopy procedures and medications. In February 2024, my dad started to become more ill, filling up with fluid around his lungs and belly, which required continuous paracentesis and thoracentesis to control. They also found a small tumor on his liver in February, which they had been keeping an eye on. In September of 2024, they confirmed my dad had liver cancer. His primary care provider took him off work due to his declining health. They were able to perform an ablation on December 13th, 2024. After freezing the tumors, my father became severely ill. On December 26th, I took my dad to Enloe Hospital due to confusion, shortness of breath, and other symptoms. It was then that they told me my dad needed to start dialysis immediately due to his liver causing severe damage to his kidneys. He stayed in ICU at Enloe for 4 days, then transferred to CPMC in San Francisco to get evaluated for a liver transplant. He has gone through many tests and procedures to ensure he could receive a transplant. Today, January 8th, we received the news that my dad has passed the tests. He will continue to stay in San Francisco until he receives the transplant, which they are thinking will be next week. He is still undergoing dialysis and paracentesis for the fluid buildup in his belly.

I am making this asking for help, as we do live about 3 hours away from the CPMC SF. After his transplant surgery, he will stay an additional 7 days in the hospital. Then my dad and brother will have to stay locally for 30 days. My brother will be the one taking time off work and going to care for him for the 30 days. The hospital does have apartments they can rent out to us for the 30 days. There are some resources that may be able to help with payments, but it still all depends on what makes us eligible for those resources. The case manager told us we should have around $5,000-6,000 ready for the cost of everything. This includes the housing and its deposit, parking passes for 30 days as he will be having 3 appointments a week after surgery, co-pays for medications, gas, food, etc.

My family and I would like to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support since the start of all of this! We truly appreciate all those who can help with a donation, even with prayers.
