Support Jose Melesio after Tragic Hit and Run

Dear family and friends,

We are heartbroken to share the loss of our beloved Jose Melesio, who passed away on the morning of Monday, April 27, 2026. He was the cherished son of Maria Melesio; a loving brother to Margarita and Bruno; and a devoted uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend to so many.

Jose had been visiting family in Los Angeles, where he was also looking forward to watching the Chicago Cubs play the Los Angeles Dodgers. Having grown up in the suburbs of Chicago, he built lifelong friendships and was always present at family gatherings, bringing warmth and joy to those around him.

Tragically, on the morning of April 27th, Jose was struck by a sedan while walking at the intersection of South Figueroa Street and West 75th Street in Los Angeles. The driver fled the scene without stopping to help, and emergency services were called by bystanders.

We are currently working to bring Jose back to Chicago for his funeral services. We remain in contact with LAPD detectives and the coroner’s office regarding the timing of his transfer as their investigation proceeds.

If you are able, please consider making a donation to help cover funeral expenses and the cost of bringing Jose home to Chicago. Your support during this difficult time is deeply appreciated.

Thank you for keeping Jose and our family in your thoughts and prayers. Wake and funeral details will be provided and updated here soon.

The city of LA is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for any information leading to the offender's identification, arrest and conviction or resolution through civil compromise.

LAPD has urged anyone with information on the case to contact Officer Hurd of the South Traffic Division Detectives. Phone numbers for contact are provided in the news articles below.
