Our Uncle Joe met our Auntie Fe in April of 1970 in San Francisco when they both attended a party thrown by the local Pangasinan, Philipines association. Their courtship developed quickly and married December of the next year.
Although they wanted but could not have their own children, they arranged with Joe's brother, Jorge and wife, Cora (our parents) to keep us as young children at their house on Blossom Court, Daly City. This was primarily on school days - since their home was blocks from our elementary school. This allowed them to have some of the parental experience that they longed for and we had gained another set of parents.
Even without their own kids, Joe and Fe loved and took care of each other for 54 years. They traveled, made friends everywhere, and eventually sold the Daly City house and moved to a new home in Fairfield, CA.
Auntie Fe was diagnosed with breast cancer but at some point refused further treatment. Both of them eventually experience health issues as they advanced in age. Somehow she was strong enough to continue life for quite a few more years but finally succumbed to complications from breast cancer and dementia on August 7, 2025.
Joe is dealing with multiple health problems of his own, including diabetes, congestive heart failure, partial blindness, hearing loss, and advancing cognitive impairment due to his age.
The extended Family is now helping Uncle Joe navigate life without Her. He is not only grieving the loss of his beloved Fe, but also struggling with his declining health, loss of income to make his mortgage payments as well as making other ends meet.
Please donate what you can, in order to help prepare the home for rental and defray some of his ongoing healthcare costs. Whatever assistance you can help him with will determine some tough choices in his future.
