On January 1st, 2025, Toño had difficulties with his diabetes which landed him at the doctors. The doctor advised to stay on his medication and that he would be okay. That was far from the truth, Toño began to experience mild migraines, fevers, fainting spells, and at times he could not hold any food down, prompting him to throw up (multiple times a day), which he initially dismissed because he needed to work.
As of January 25th, 2025, my uncles health had notably deteriorated, he weighed 240 pounds, and in less than a month he lost 90 pounds. My uncle now weighs 150 pounds, and his weight continues to drop. My uncle Toño was sent home as no clear diagnosis could be found, for the next 20 days his wife spent countless hours consulting with multiple doctors, and no clear diagnosis could be provided.
On February 17th, 2025 as Toño received a phone call, he was able to answer the phone but minutes later became disoriented, he began to slur his words, and it became very apparent that he was struggling to speak and or make sense of what he was trying to communicate. His wife rushed him to the hospital and upon arrival when ER personnel asked him what his name was, he was unable to recall his own name and could not properly answer any questions asked. That day numerous tests were made and sadly no doctor could tell us what was wrong and was sent home.
Upon arriving home that night on February 17th his wife, children, mom and siblings made him comfortable in the comfort of his home. Toño began to have a seizure in front of his children. He was rushed to the hospital again and did not stop seizing the entire drive there.
My uncle Tono has been admitted to the hospital again as of February 18th, 2025. Medical professionals are working hard to identify the underlying issue, which they have indicated is Neurological and can possible be a brain bacteria that they have not been able to detect. The reality of this is that this process will involve further testing and we have a long road ahead of us with many medical expenses. My uncles wife is around the clock taking care of my uncle as he frequently has episodes where he seizes, will talk for 1 minute and suddenly become disoriented and lose his gross motor skills functions. Every day the goes by, he continues to lose more weight, he becomes less of himself.
It is extremely hard for us as a family to try to make sense of this nightmare. We are heartbroken to see “our Tio Toño” like this. We have racked up medical expenses that between us family have covered, but the expenses continue to add up everyday he remains in the hospital. Taking him out of the hospital is not an option. There is nothing more that we want than to see the light in his eyes again.
As of today, 2/26/25 my uncle health remains the same, he has not been able to speak all day, or fully open his eyes. So that is why we are here today, we thank you if you have read thus far. We appreciate any donation no matter big or small during this difficult time. Every donation, every share, is extremely appreciated. We thank you with our hearts in our hand.
