I have been experiencing pretty intense back pain for the past six months, and have gone through a variety of different treatments with little success. I am a bookseller and this pain has had a big impact on my ability to do my job.
At the end of January I had an MRI that showed I have a severely herniated disc in my lower back. My medical team started treatment with steroid injections that ultimately were not effective.
We have determined that the only course of action is surgery. I am lucky that I have decent insurance and am getting some help with medical costs.
Unfortunately, between my current pain levels and recovery time for the surgery I will likely be out of work for about six weeks. I do not have PTO so this means I am going to be without an income for six weeks. I am very lucky that I live with family and do not have to worry about rent but other expenses such as food and other bills are going to be difficult. I have a little bit of savings, but this will absolutely clear that out and I don’t know how I will pay for other necessities (car registration/inspection, vet bills, etc.) throughout the year if I blow through all my savings now.
I would greatly appreciate any help my friends and community are able to give. My donation goal is based on the amount of money I would usually make in six weeks plus a little extra for go fund me fees.
