Support Jorge & family in his journey to recovery

EN: Jorge is one of my favorite people at work; he is genuine, honest and generous. We have worked together for more than ten years. The covid pandemic and remote work put distance amongst all of us, but Jorge would still say hi on Teams every now and then. One day last year he said he had been having trouble walking, swallowing and with balance. He told me they found a tumor on his brain. It was benign, but large, they removed the tumor in October.

Jorge has a wife, three children, two dogs and a whole tribe of family and friends who have been supporting him, cheering him on and praying for him daily.

He spent weeks in the ICU, filled with anguish and uncertainty. But he fought and moved into a rehabilitation center just days before Christmas. His time there was busy with therapy and exercises. He worked incredible hard and amazed us all with his progress.

Jorge returned home on February 1st. He is happy to be back with his family even though it is all so different now. Jorge needs to re-learn how to walk. He has physical therapy both with a professional at home and at a rehabilitation center. He is able to move around his house thanks to an $8,000 motorized chair. The need for the chair is partly what moved me to start this campaign; much of the stuff he needs to regain his independence is not covered by health insurance.

Jorge and his family are an example of hard work and resilience, for everyone. His wife continues to work full-time, and the children continue to work hard and excel in school. They all help Jorge with his exercises, getting him in and out of bed, making sure he makes all of his appointments, takes all of his medications and keeping his spirts up. There is no doubt in my mind they will succeed at returning to their normal, to the days before the tumor, when they walked the dogs together, rode their bikes on the weekends and did math homework together after school. But to get there they will need lots of help and continued support. This campaign is one way we can help.

ESP: Jorge es una de mis personas favoritas en el trabajo. Es genuino, honesto y generoso. Hemos trabajado juntos por más de diez años. La pandemia y el trabajo remoto puso distancia entre todos, pero el siempre se mantuvo en contacto. Un día del año pasado me contó que tenía problemas caminando, tragando y con su equilibrio. Los exámenes detectaron un tumor en su cerebro. Era benigno, pero grande. La cirugía para removerlo fue en octubre.

Jorge tiene una esposa, tres hijos, dos perros y una tribu enorme de familiares y amigos que hemos estado apoyándolo, animándolo y orando por el todos los días.

Pasó semanas llenas de angustia e incertidumbre en la unidad de cuidados intensivos, pero luchó y días antes de navidad lo trasladaron a un centro de rehabilitación. Allí pasó semanas ocupadas con terapias y ejercicios. Trabajó increíblemente duro, y nos deleitó

a todos con sus progresos.

Jorge volvió a su casa el 1ero de febrero. Está muy feliz de estar de nuevo con su familia, a pesar de que todo es tan diferente. Su prioridad en estos momentos es reaprender a caminar. Hace terapias dentro y fuera de casa. Dentro de su casa, se mueve en una silla motorizada que cuesta $8.000. Eso es en parte lo que me motivó a empezar esta campaña; mucho de lo que necesita Jorge para volver a ser independiente no está cubierto por seguros médicos.

Jorge y su familia son un ejemplo de trabajo duro y resiliencia para todos. Su esposa continúa trabajando a tiempo completo, y los niños continúan sobresaliendo en la escuela. Todos ayudan a Jorge con sus ejercicios, levantándolo de la cama, llevándolo a todas sus citas médicas, asegurándose de que se tome todos sus medicamentos, y manteniéndolo con fuerzas y buenos ánimos. No me cabe duda de que van a lograr regresar a su vida normal, a los días previos al tumor, cuando todos salían a pasear a los perritos, manejaban bicicletas los fines de semana, y hacían tareas de matemáticas después de la escuela. Pero para llegar allí necesitan mucha ayuda y apoyo continuo. Esta campaña es una forma de ayudarlos.
