Story time! jordan is a recipient of Medicaid, a government funded healthcare that helps low income folks access necessary medical care. In 2024 they navigated the arduous bureaucratic process of scheduling top surgery within the Medicaid system. After finding a surgeon who accepted Medicaid, jordan was relieved knowing they could take time off of work to recover because the surgery was going to be completely covered. After gathering all the needed documents, including letters from their PCP and a therapist, they finally had a date.
Many of you know what happened next. On August 11, 2024, only two months before jordan was supposed to get surgery, Governor Jeff Landry sneakily passed a law immediately stopping Louisiana Medicaid from covering any gender affirming surgeries for trans people.
After nearly a year of planning, jordan had to cancel their surgery that was meant to be 100% free. Because of the draconian laws that our government has implemented, they are now forced to travel out of state and pay over $10,000 out of pocket. They have been able to save enough to pay the $100 consultation fee, and the $1,000 deposit. This leaves them with $9,900 to pay for the surgery itself. Any funds that this gofundme receives that exceed surgery costs will go to travel expenses, rent and bills while they’re not able to work, and redistribution to other TGNC folks for their medical needs.
To know jordan is to know someone who cares for their community and loved ones unconditionally. Let’s show them this love back and help them get the healthcare they need! If you prefer to donate on a different platform, the options are as follows:
