On June 3rd my sweet, beautiful fiancée returned from the doctor and told me, “there’s a possibility my back pain is actually pancreatic cancer.” On June 13th she was officially diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma. We are all still in disbelief at how quickly this all happened and to say our world has been turned upside down is an understatement.
Her journey started in November 2021 when she started having persistent mid-back pain that would not let up. She returned to the doctor multiple times and they suspected it was a spinal/muscular issue. She tried PT and chiropractic care to no avail. The pain eventually began radiating around her ribs, abdomen and hips. It increased exponentially week by week until she was completely disabled with pain and unable to work.
A spinal MRI revealed multiple protruding discs and incidentally showed multiple lesions on her abdominal organs. This discovery lead to many more scans, blood tests and a biopsy. Finally, it was determined that she had a very large mass on her pancreas that spread to her liver in just 4 short months.
Due to the type of cancer and the rapid spreading, it is unfortunately inoperable. Her prognosis is about 6 months without chemotherapy and 8 months with chemotherapy, but of course we are hopeful she will stay with us longer. She has made the brave decision to pursue the route of hospice care right away.
Despite experiencing incessant pain and fatigue, she remains incredibly strong mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Those close to her continue to be inspired by her strength and courage.
We thank you all in advance for your love, support, positive thoughts and prayers. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and we will do what we can to keep our loved ones updated.
