This new single I wrote called “Don’t Take Your Love Away,” I am opening pre-orders on 3/20/25, which means you can add it to your playlists on all streaming platforms (Spotify/Apple Music/YouTube, etc.) and when it drops on 3/28/25 it will go live to those playlists at 12am that Friday.

These last 5 years have been a challenging time for us which co-incided with covid, trying to navigate making a living through music independently, the loss of friends and loved ones to that outbreak, coping with lack of resources medically and socially for my wife who has a complex disability and all that is going on in the world that make for an anxious environment. This song was born out of that struggle to keep our love together against all odds. I wrote this during the thick of Covid-19 pandemic and you can hear that in the opening line of the first verse “we’ve been through so much these days of death and dying, all over the world.” Thankfully many of us survived it and for that I’m grateful, while my heart goes out deeply to those who lost loved ones during it all. Of course death is just a factor of life and we never know when our time will be, so it’s always good to be thankful for what we have and for those around us, and our closest loved ones and friends, to verbally, emotionally and spiritually be present for them when they need someone to reach out to and vice verse. I’m thankful for my friends and family answering my calls when they could and in general anyways, especially living out in a rural area of North East Texas, pretty far away from most people we know well.

I know that the tight quarters and personal demands of being isolated during COVID also broke many couples and marriages up and put relationships to the test, and for that my condolences go out to those who had to go their separate ways. I feel and have felt on the verge of that for some time, both of us have, from being so isolated most of the year from loved ones and friends regardless of Covid and life's general challenges.

As of this day, March 5, 2025, Jac and I are still together and I sincerely hope we can make it through this challenging portal of life and our relationship, victorious in Love, as that’s what we signed up for when marrying each other, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, til death do us part. We have our good days still so there is still hope, faith and love in the mix.

I also think this single speaks to the U.S.A/America currently on a big picture. Open to interpretation of course, but I hear that in it as well.

My idea for this single is to see if my community will donate at least $1 (the typical price of a digital copy of a song) or as much as they feel inclined to donate, and that money will go towards paying for the digital distribution fees necessary to get it out worldwide on all streaming platforms and so I can make my royalties from all that (usually it's only a little bit, but every bit counts). Initially I was going to try and raise funds for a 45rpm 7" but we've decided to shelve that goal for now and just pay for the distribution fees and get it out there for the world to listen to digitally at this time. If you're interested in supporting my Independent musical career, which is the only way I've been able to support my family (I can't work outside the home as I am a caregiver for my wife), please consider contributing any amount monthly no matter how small at patreon.com/yogoman Thank you!

I am very proud of this recording. I spent many hours perfecting it with my imperfect and lo fidelity means of production, via GarageBand a single pinhole condenser mic and multi layering myself playing all instruments - Guitars, Bass, Drums and Vocals on it. What is unique about this single is that I really made a dream come true by being able to take my time producing it at home until I got it as good as I could make it sound and allowing myself the time and space this Winter 2024/2025 to manifest all aspects of the song until I felt like it was truly finished! I’ve honestly never really done that before. This is one reason I moved to Linden, Texas. I love the creative and peaceful energy this particular region emanates and it is the main reason I felt comfortable enough buying a home (for the first time) here, creating a place I could cultivate music from, and I am so grateful for our home which I feel so comfortable making music at and at which music sounds so naturally good in acoustically.

The general genres or styles employed in terms of what most Americans and people of the world would understand are Reggae, Soul and Country, but to be completely honest, it is a Rocksteady song through and through. Most of you know I am a Jamaican Reggae enthusiast, Deejay/Selector, and ambassador of that music wherever I travel or live. It is the music that makes me tick over the last few decades more than any other. Rocksteady was a short era in Jamaican music from 1966-1968 that slowed down the fast pace of Ska and also was heavily influenced by American Soul music in its vocally rich quality as well as themes of Peace, Love and Unity before officially becoming Reggae in late 1968 or early 1969.

Thank you for supporting this single. I feel it is one of, if not my most deeply realized musical work to date, I hope to spread this song like wildfire to the world and so that many people, especially the lovers out there, will be able to relate and dance to it, and so the spirit and soul of true love through the most challenging of times can and will endure! Of course I dedicate this song to my wife whom I have loved most deeply in my life and to whom I wrote it, Jacqueline "Bongo Jac" Rae.

All the best to you wonderful people out there,

with Love always,
Jordan Rain/Yogoman
