Campaign Title: From the Classroom to Hollywood: Help My Writing Dream Take Flight

A Lifetime of Ink and Heart
I have been writing since I first picked up a pencil. For me, the page has always been a sanctuary, a place to process the world, to heal, and to give a voice to the voiceless. At 52 years old, writing isn't just what I do; it is the fuel for my soul.
I have spent my career as a Special Education English teacher, helping my 9th graders at Memorial High School find the courage to tell their own stories. I teach them that no matter their struggle, their voice has value. Now, I am trying to take my own advice and honor the voice I have nurtured for decades.

The Invitation: Hollywood is Calling
I am incredibly humbled to share that my book, It’s Me, Danny!, has been named a finalist for Author of the Year in Young Adult Fiction with the International Impact Book Awards.

I have been invited to the Loew's Hollywood Hotel in California for a prestigious writer’s conference and the awards gala where the winner will be announced. As a self-published author, I don't have a major publishing house or a marketing agency behind me. I am my own publicist, my own agent, and my own biggest believer.

This invitation is the recognition I have worked for my entire life, a chance to finally bring my stories of overcoming hardship, love, and hope to a national stage.

Why These Stories Matter
My writing doesn't shy away from the hard things. I write about:
The beauty of same-sex love and transgender journeys.
The resilience found in disability and neurodiversity.
The raw reality of cancer, trauma, and loss.

I believe the arts should be a mirror where everyone can see themselves reflected. By helping me get to this conference, you are supporting more than just a trip; you are supporting independent literature and the belief that these "taboo" topics are exactly what the world needs to talk about more.

The Goal: Making the Dream a Reality
As a public school teacher, the financial hurdle to get to Hollywood is high. I am seeking to raise $2,500 to cover the conference tuition ($1,400), roundtrip airfare ($500), and two nights of lodging ($600).

Every single donation, no matter the size, is a vote of confidence in my work. It is a hand on my shoulder saying, "Your stories matter, Joplin."

Be a Part of the Story

I’ve spent my life promoting the dreams of my students and my family. This time, I am asking for help to realize my own. Please consider donating or simply sharing this link with your friends and family. Word of mouth is the only way a self-published author truly grows, and I am so grateful to have you in my corner.
Thank you for believing in the power of a story. See you in Hollywood!
