Our nephew Jonny is an incredible 11-year-old boy from Acuitzeramo Mich. and he is the second of four children. He was born without a hand, but from the very beginning his mom has reminded him that he can do anything he sets his mind to. Despite facing questions and sometimes being treated differently at school, Jonny carries himself with strength and faith. When other kids ask why he’s missing his hand, he simply says, “God made me this way.”

Since he was a baby, Jonny and his family have faced more challenges than most. He has experienced multiple hospital stays due to complications affecting his brain and lives with frequent, unpredictable seizures. To manage his condition, he must take medication for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of this medication has caused the lymph nodes in his neck to enlarge, leading to difficulty breathing. Now, Jonny must undergo surgery to remove them.

His parents have worked tirelessly to care for him and provide for their family. His father works long hours in the fields planting and harvesting corn, and has taken on a second job to help cover the growing medical expenses. His mother has learned to bake and sells homemade cakes to contribute toward hospital bills and medication costs.
