Dear Friends, Family and Kind-Hearted Strangers,

On Saturday, February 17, 2024, Joni Yench was severely injured in a car accident when she was struck head on by an uninsured motorist while driving for a work delivery in West Bend, Wisconsin. She was taken to Froedtert Hospital with a Lisfranc (midfoot) break and 5 dislocated toes on her right foot as well as a shattered right tibia head. She has had 4 major surgeries to repair her foot and tibia, however full restoration of her tibia is not possible. She spent 4 weeks at Froedtert, another 4 weeks at a nursing facility and is currently residing with her sister. She will undergo full knee replacement surgery in September. Doctors anticipate that her knee recovery will take 3 months (longer than normal) due to the long-term effects of the immobility of her right leg which has been non-weight bearing since the accident.

Joni’s injuries require the use of a wheelchair or walker. She is unable to drive and needs assistance with everyday living. Her car was a total loss. She had to break the lease on her second floor apartment because she could not navigate the stairs and is unable to live alone at this time.

The accident was caused by an uninsured motorist, who walked away without a scratch. Joni’s personal auto insurance will not cover accident related expenses because she was employed by the delivery service when it happened. The delivery service insurance covers only medical expenses and a small disability payment that would not even begin to cover rent.

Joni has not been able to work or have any regular income since the accident on February 17. It’s unknown what kind of permanent disability Joni will have after her final surgery. We are asking for donations to help with Joni’s many expenses, including medical and mobility equipment as well as future expenses of obtaining a vehicle and new living accommodations. Your donation will help Joni return to as normal and independent a life as possible following the devastating damage to her right leg.

Please consider donating and sharing this Go Fund Me link with your network. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated during this incredibly difficult time. Together we can make a difference in Joni's Road to Recovery.
