As the temperatures dropped way below freezing in NYC, Joni and Stills, two community cats in Red Hook, Brooklyn, were eager to get out of the cold and, lucky for them, their caretaker and concerned neighbors contacted me for help. This is a fundraiser for their veterinary care and temporary housing, so that we can get them healthy enough for adoption!
I am a volunteer cat rescuer in the neighborhood and have seen these cats, and many others, struggling through brutal winters and scorching summers. Two of their colony mates were killed by speeding cars. Thankfully, although they have lived outside for most of their lives, Joni and Stills have learned to appreciate humans and we felt confident enough to bring them inside for this next chapter of their lives.
On Friday, December 20th, I took Joni and Stills to the vet for full exams, testing for FIV and FeLV, vaccines, flea treatment, microchips and we also got antibiotics for Joni's upper respiratory infection. During the exam the vet also noticed that Joni has grade 3 dental disease, and so we also ran bloodwork to make sure she is healthy enough for surgery.
On January 6th, Joni will go back to the veterinary hospital for her dental surgery.
I will be sure to post updates here as they continue to get more comfortable inside. Thank you so much for the support! Cat rescue is 100% volunteer and I do not get paid for this work. Donations from the public are the only way that I am able to keep saving lives, and for that, I am so grateful!
