Jonathan has been battling cancer since July. There are lots of stories of others who were immediately cured. Unfortunately, Jonathan’s path has not been quick or easy. During the first 6 months, he had four rounds of chemo, two surgeries, and combined over 50 nights in the hospital. After that, he was in renal failure and generally not stable enough for more chemo. Barbara went on leave to care for him, as he focused on going to physical therapy for basic strength and walking. Unfortunately, his cancer has spread, and he will be starting treatments again.
Life doesn't stop just because of a cancer diagnosis. Jonathan hasn’t worked since early July, and everyday life has been piling up as well. Things happen and individually they aren’t a big deal, but when combined they add more stress: Jonathan's cell phone dying at the same time as their landline while he was being readmitted to the hospital, 2 cars that are no longer worth fixing, a 4 story tree falling, their dog's middle of the night emergency after licking a slug, no heat for 3 days due to a complicated repair issue, and snow melting in through their kitchen ceiling.
While I understand that some may want more detailed medical information, that’s not something to share publicly. What I can say is that prolonged medical challenges like this take a tremendous toll. Seeing others, including public figures like James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane, go through similar battles has reinforced how everyone can use support during times like these.
This isn’t about insurance or long-term planning—it’s about helping a family get through an incredibly difficult time. Any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
