Hi! My name is Jonah Lewis and my twin brother, Josiah, and I are looking to raise money to go on a mission trip on January 10, 2025, to Belize with a select few of our classmates from St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Maryland. Every year, our school goes on a mission trip to Belize to take part in a cultural and ecological immersion trip. The trip has two main focuses:
Focus 1 will include an in-depth scientific study of the environment, ecosystems, and wildlife of Belize. This will be achieved by exploring various sites and by working with researchers active in Belize. Possible site visits will include the Tropical Education Center, Belize Zoo, Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Community Baboon Sanctuary, Belize Organic Farms, and visits to study the Coral Reef, among others.
Focus 2 will involve studying the papal encyclical Laudato Si: On Care For Our Common Home. This letter from Pope Francis calls on all people of goodwill to reflect upon and find creative solutions to the environmental challenges that we face today. Caring for, appreciating the beauty of, and loving the natural world is integral to the Catholic faith.
My brother and I are both the captains of the varsity soccer team and members of the varsity swim and lacrosse teams. Furthermore, we are both honor roll and presidential honor roll students in the classroom. Within our school community, we are considered some of the top students, being a part of a small group within the Campus Ministry known as Union Leaders. I, Jonah, hold the title of president of our senior class of 2025.
Despite the challenges of being raised in a single-parent household, we still manage to handle our business as academic scholars and student-athletes. Would you please consider helping my brother and I raise the funds to allow us to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience?
