#JonRusseSD
Hi, my name is Sherry and I’m fundraising for Jon Russe. I have had the privilege of working with his wife, Jackie, at Scripps Mercy Hospital.
2 days before Christmas, Jon had COVID for about a week. It progressed to an abnormally bad headache to the point he didn’t know his own name. Long story short, he’s been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. This infection affects the protective covering of the brain and spinal cord.
Christmas Eve, one pupil was non-responsive due to the swelling in his brain from the infection. It is still unequal to the right. He suffered a ruptured eardrum prior and had a high temperature.
This was from Jackie to all of us:
“ He’s in there guys…he’s so in there. I know he feels all the love. I’ve been telling him how many people are praying for him and sending love. Thank you to our village who has shown up in HUGE way, it means everything right now. Thank you.”
Day After Christmas. Jon experienced visual hallucinations from the affected eye. Jon now has double vision and suffering some memory issues. Jackie works with him to “exercise” his brain. He is in good spirits but like anyone else, he is frustrated due to limitations.
His doctor said that had they waited a few more hours to go to the ER, Jon would have certainly died.
From Jackie to Jon : “I love you Jon Russe…more than you’ll ever know. Thank you for not leaving me, thank you for giving me the chance to show you everyday just how much I love you.”
January 4. Jon started complaining of his face feeling like he’d been to the dentist and had a novocaine shot. Back to the ER. Stroke code called. Bell’s Palsy resulted from the infection.
Today: He’s on a course of steroids and anti-virals just for the Bell’s Palsy. That’s the lesser of the two evils. They deal with the uncertainty of the unknown future. Meanwhile, they are piecing back together their personal, professional, and financial lives as best they can. All they have ever asked for is prayers. Their faith keeps them strong and together.
They have 4 kids ranging from 4-19. Two of which have autism. Jon and Jaclyn have faced, are dealing with, and beat many challenges.
Please help me help a family that amidst their challenges, they rely heavily on their faith.
