Mahatma Gandhi once said, “If you don’t ask, you don’t get.” Today, I’m asking not just for financial help, but for belief in a dream that means everything to me.

My name is Johnteris Tolbert, but my friends and family call me JT. I just turned 19. I'm from Miami, Florida, but I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m currently a rising sophomore at Morehouse College, majoring in Film, Cinema, and Video Studies. I am also a published author. The title of my book is “My Crazy Experience As A Middle Schooler.

I'm writing this letter not only to ask for help but to speak truthfully about the financial barriers that continue to threaten my ability to stay enrolled at the college I love. Morehouse has always represented more than just education; it represents brotherhood, legacy, and the mission of transforming young Black men into scholars and leaders. I came to Morehouse with the dream of being the first man in my family to attend and graduate from an HBCU.

Attending Morehouse has been a dream come true, but not having the full tuition has been a nightmare. My Merit Scholarship helps, but it doesn’t cover the full cost of tuition. I’ve applied for countless scholarships, sold copies of my book, and worked hard to save, but I still fall short. In addition to tuition, I’ve also been placed on the housing waitlist and now have to cover off-campus rent. My family supports me with all they have and I’m doing everything I can, but I can’t do this alone.

That’s why I’ve created this GoFundMe. I’m seeking to raise $16,502.00 to cover my remaining tuition and living expenses for the year. Your contribution would directly support my education and bring me one step closer to achieving my dream: starting my own film production company one day and using storytelling to inspire and uplift others.

Asking for money has been one of the hardest I've ever done, but I’m not giving up. I believe in the putting God first and the power of education. I believe that with your help, I can stay the course.
