Help My Dad Recover After a Stroke and Hospital Setbacks
My name is Jordan and I’m raising funds for my dad, John, who recently suffered a massive stroke that left him in a coma, on a ventilator, and fighting for his life.
While our family was still trying to process this medical emergency, things took a turn for the worse — not just because of the stroke, but because of a series of failures in the hospital system that have severely impacted his recovery.
What Happened:
• My dad was placed on a ventilator and in the ICU after his stroke.
• Doctors prematurely removed his breathing tube against a neurologist’s advice, despite one physician warning that he might aspirate.
• He did aspirate, and later developed pneumonia — which the hospital failed to inform us about for three days.
• That pneumonia worsened into what doctors now suspect is a bacterial or fungal lung infection.
• He also developed a bed sore, believed to be from inadequate nursing care while he was unconscious.
• To make matters worse, he was removed from the ventilator and transferred out of the ICU without our knowledge or consent.
No Rehab, No Insurance, No Help
My dad is retired and the state rejected his application for Medicaid this year. We were told by doctors and financial staff that rehab would be the next step in his recovery. But suddenly — with no warning — we were informed that he can’t go to rehab because he doesn’t have insurance.
No one helped us apply for Emergency Medicaid. We are now scrambling to figure it out on our own, while trying to advocate for my dad’s care, manage daily hospital updates, and keep our family together.
⸻
We are asking for help to cover:
• Rehabilitation and post-acute care
• Transportation and transitional medical equipment
• Emergency Medicaid filing fees, legal document support, or out-of-pocket treatment
• Future housing or in-home care needs when he is stable enough to leave the hospital
My dad is a kind, strong, and proud man. He would never ask for help himself — but right now, we have no other choice.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will go directly to helping us get my dad the care he deserves. If you can’t donate, please share this with your network. We need a village right now.
From the bottom of my heart — thank you.
