Help John Heal: Overcoming a Broken Hip
Donation protected
Those who know John know that he is no stranger to pain and suffering. As a lifelong ultra endurance cyclist, he has overcome setbacks and fought through adversity to not just finish races, but to excel at everything he does. The photo on this GoFundMe is from the 1993 Wilderness 101 mountain bike where John was able to finish the 100 mile race despite a crash in the first 12 miles.
The Wilderness 101 story is just one example of many where John was able to accept his circumstances and overcome adversity to not just soldier on, but to find success.
In recent years, John has been able to return to his love of cycling and was, for the first time in a long time, experiencing success, joy, and good feelings when riding. Like many cyclists, John knows that having a healthy body is crucial to his physical and mental well-being.
John knows, as we all do, that mountain biking and other sports come with some risk of serious injury, but that is a risk he has always been willing to take. He has the skill and experience to take a measured approach to risk and has navigated it well throughout his lifetime. It is for this reason, that it is so deeply unfair that John has now suffered a serious and possibly life-changing injury when he was doing nothing more than working his delivery job. As he stepped out of a downtown apartment building, after completing a delivery, he was suddenly and without warning struck by an as-of-yet unidentified Lime Scooter rider causing him to suffer a broken hip which had to be surgically repaired.
Although John thankfully has health insurance and a community of friends who can help him somewhat with his activities of daily living, he will be unable to bear weight for six weeks and will likely be unable to do delivery work, which requires walking and cycling, for several months. It is for that reason, that I have set up this GoFundMe to help sustain him until he is back on his feet.
