Support John's Recovery After Accident at TNSR

Donation protected
On Thursday, December 5th John Anton (@cycleholic_nyc) began a ride with one of his favorite bike groups, Social Cycling NYC/TNSR (Thursday Night Social Ride). Around 50 cyclists headed northbound on Central Park West when, about ten blocks in, John was hit and run over by a car. The driver did not stop after hitting John and pulled him under, running over his torso with both the front and back tires before dragging him some distance. The driver eventually stopped, his fellow cyclists supported him and EMS and police arrived on the scene.

John suffered broken bones in his face and jaw, numerous broken ribs, internal bleeding, pelvis and hip fractures. He was wearing a helmet and sustained no injury affecting his cognition. He spent four days in the Surgical ICU recovering from a surgery to repair bones and a muscle in his face. He spent several more days in the hospital before being discharged home. His internal bleeding was minimal and did not require surgery.

John is now recovering at home with minimal support and few assistive devices. He must climb 20 stairs to get to his kitchen, answer the front door or leave his home for appointments. John's road ahead is a long one, especially as he waits for his rib, pelvis and hip fractures to heal naturally.

We hope you'll consider donating anything you can (even just $5 helps!) to support John's safe recovery. This money will be used for things that will help keep him moving around safely, like Uber rides to follow up appointments (rather than taking the subway, and stairs). It will also help him in lots of other ways since he will be out of work for several months.

John has been a positive force in this community since 2020 and has even started to cultivate a team and new Monday night ride in Queens, Cycleholics. He is SO grateful for the care and support offered by so many people at this time and can't wait to get back on his bike. Let's help our guy heal and get back outside!
