******UPDATE******
John has returned to Sandy's, but still at risk for falls and continuous supervision is necessary during daily activities. He is doing well with the cane. His dietary regimen is currently restricted to basically baby food and thickened liquids, permitting only very very small bites of solid foods. Nothing that can harm his throat.

While, his is making great progress, he still has a long road ahead of him. Please continue to share and donate if you can. Every little bit helps ease their financial needs. John and his family are so touched and grateful for everyone who has provided support during this tragic time. Donations made are overseen by Nikki and Fran and they will ensure, all necessities and medical requirements for John are met.

Anyone who would like to send a donation instead of using this site. Please contact myself [phone redacted] or Nikki via messenger for address.

On August 24th at 4:00 p.m., John, or "Big John" as known by some, suffered a life-threatening stroke in his driveway, where he lay for 21 hours, unable to move or call for help, until he was found the next day at 1:00 p.m. Rushed to Marinette and then St. Vincent's ICU in Green Bay, John was placed in a coma with a grim prognosis. He needed a breathing tube and feeding tube due to throat damage. A stent was implanted in his neck. He wasn’t expected to regain feeling on either side or even speak normally. Despite initial expectations, John has progressed significantly: he's now off the feeding tube, although not on solid food yet. He’s walking with a cane and receiving intensive physical and speech therapy in the rehabilitation ward. Partial loss of feeling on his right side persists.

John's remarkable kindness and generosity have touched us all, and the community, in one way or another. You can count on seeing him in the stands, cheering on the kids at games. Last season, he didn't miss any of Kelsie's games, except those far away, and even then, he attended if possible. I’m sure you’ve seen him grabbing breakfast from time to time at Farm House, visiting with the morning crew, and has plowed many of our driveways during winter. Always willing to lend a hand without expecting anything in return, John is a staple in our community - an amazing dad, brother, uncle, son, and friend. We're truly lucky to still have him, and his doctor even refers to him as her medical miracle.

While his progress is amazing, uncertainty remains about his ability to work, earn a living and manage everyday expenses. Fortunately, insurance will provide some relief, but not everything and future costs are unclear. Upon returning to his home, John will require assistance and aftercare. Any donation you can give is greatly appreciated and will help him and his family overcome medical expenses and aftercare. Allowing him to fully concentrate on his recovery.

Nikki and Fran will be in charge of all medical expenses and take care of paying the bills as the come in. If you would like to send donations instead of online or help out with raising donations please contact either Nikki Leaveck via Facebook Messenger or myself via the contact link below. Again thank you for all your love and support.
