In September of 2024, John was diagnosed with a Sarcoma at the base of his spine after struggling for years with generalized lower back pain, and life as he had known it came screeching to a hault. Two months later, after radiation treatment, he underwent a major reconstructive surgery to have his tailbone and part of his sacrum, along with the massive tumor removed. Before and after that surgery he received max doses of radiation to ensure the cancer wouldn't come back. He astonished me his wife, friends, and family by how quickly he was determined to recover and get back to his vibrant life performing and sharing his heart through music, which he did, in record time. We built our home, and were headlong into our plans to build a life together.
In the Spring of 2025, we were devastated when we were notified after our first post-treatment scans of possible recurrence, which was confirmed in September --and catapulted us once again into an exhausting battle. Since then, John has undergone 6 rounds of intensive high-dose chemotherapy and we are now staring down another major 3-day, reconstructive surgery at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, where we will live short-term remotely while he recovers. Our lives have been completely upended by cancer. The medical expenses over the last year and travel expenses to get the best care we can find has financially gutted us as a newly married couple. We exhausted our government aid/medical leave and have received great help from family - Even still, we are living in a world of need to pay for our bills and daily living while we battle this with all our might.
Friends, we need your help during this last battle. We are throwing all we have into this, at every heart-wrenching juncture, to ensure it is indeed the very last battle John has to fight to become truly cancer free. We are so grateful, so truly grateful for any support of John, and help to keep our small family afloat.
With all the love and gratitude in the universe
-Hannah
